Purple Stripe-Persian Star

Persian Star is perhaps the most beautiful of the standard group of Purple Stripes with its thick white bulb wrappers that are streaked with purple as you peel away the outer wrappers. When the wrappers are all peeled away the clove covers with their distinctive long sharp points resemble an eight point star, hence their name. They have a superior flavor that is retained after cooking. They are east to grow and can adapt to harsh winter climates or mild southern climates, however they produce best with cold winter. 8-10 clover per bulb. Late Harvest. Stores up to 6 months in a cool dark place. Medium to Hot! Zone 1-9

Garlic seed is usually planted 4 to 6 weeks before the ground freezes in order to insure good root growth before winter, plant in early October for the North and November through January for the South.

*Please note all garlic will begin shipping in September, order early and get shipped first!

  • Storage: Garlic should be stored in a cool, dry place out of direct light.  Do NOT store in the refrigerator!  Keep in a paper bag or closed cardboard box inside a cabinet in the coolest part of your house.  Garlic will keep drying out the longer it is stored.  This will make it lighter, the bulbs less dense, and even hotter and stronger.  But eventually it will dry out beyond functional use, and may even rot or mold.  Most of our Garlics were fully cured by the end of September, and thus their “shelf life” began.  In prime conditions they should store six months or more.
