Marbled Purple Stripe-Metechi

Metechi's bulb wrappers are thick and parchment-like and the outer ones are very, very white. As you peel away the outer wrappers more and more purple striping shows up and they become almost solid purple by the time you get down to the cloves. The clove covers are dark brown with purple streaks and long sharp pointed tips.

Garlic seed is usually planted 4 to 6 weeks before the ground freezes in order to insure good root growth before winter, plant in early October for the North and November through January for the South.

*Please note all garlic will begin shipping in September, order early and get shipped first!

  • Storage: Garlic should be stored in a cool, dry place out of direct light.  Do NOT store in the refrigerator!  Keep in a paper bag or closed cardboard box inside a cabinet in the coolest part of your house.  Garlic will keep drying out the longer it is stored.  This will make it lighter, the bulbs less dense, and even hotter and stronger.  But eventually it will dry out beyond functional use, and may even rot or mold.  Most of our Garlics were fully cured by the end of September, and thus their “shelf life” began.  In prime conditions they should store six months or more.
