Hardneck Rocambole garlic-German Red
German Red usually has from 8 or 9 easy to peel cloves that are of good size, with no smaller inner cloves. The outer bulb wrappers are thin and flake off easily so it does not store well. Bulbs are usually over 2 1/2 inches in diameter.
Grown primarily for their particularly rich flavor.

Garlic seed is usually planted 4 to 6 weeks before the ground freezes in order to insure good root growth before winter, plant in early October for the North and November through January for the South.

Storage: Garlic should be stored in a cool, dry place out of direct light. Do NOT store in the refrigerator! Keep in a paper bag or closed cardboard box inside a cabinet in the coolest part of your house. Garlic will keep drying out the longer it is stored. This will make it lighter, the bulbs less dense, and even hotter and stronger. But eventually it will dry out beyond functional use, and may even rot or mold. Most of our Garlics were fully cured by the end of September, and thus their “shelf life” began. In prime conditions they should store six months or more.
